If no other setting such as parity or stop bits need to be modified on the laptop and the loop back plug as well as the other pieces of software that communicate via the serial port work, then that would seem to indicate that there is something with the HMI. So if the cables are right, then the only two things left are the HMI and the laptop. On the 9 pin side I have 1, 4, 6 tied together and then I have 7 and 8 tied together.Īccording to all that has been posted here cables one or three should work to attach to the HMI. Third cable is one that I made according to the posting made here. This one I have been told is wrong and will not work. Second cable is one I made the other day where I connected the CTS and RTS No other connections are made between any pins Oh well will continue trying, my motto is never give up until you have completely exhausted everything.īig thanks to all posters who have posted so far and for all the assistance given so far.įirst cable is a factory cable and has the following pinouts So either the cable is wrong, which I highly doubt because two poster have said same wiring, or there is something set wrong in my protool, or the previous employee did something to the screens to disable the programming port.Īnd I did try this on a OP25 screen and I get the same problem, no connection. And I did try the other software on the laptop. I did try a loop back plug to make sure the com port was working properly. I did try changing the baud rate on the software, went from 9600 setting all the way through 56K setting.Īll of them came up with same error message, check cables, system setting, com settings, etc. I know in my XP system screen I can see the com port and it is set at 19200, 8, N, 1. The only settings I see in protool gives me choice of com port and speed, but nothing about parity or anything like that.

Is there some settings somewhere that I have to change for baud rate and parity and things of that nature? I have tried both cables and neither one will establish communication with the screen. So I made a cable with the pins jumped together. This morning I made up one cable, the cable I did have which is a factory cable does not have the pins jumpered together. So that tells me that either my cable is bad or there is some configuration step I am missing.Īny and all other ideas greatly appreciated. Since all of these use the serial port I did try the Mitsubishi and the CSCAPE and both of them connected to their respective PLC's. On a side note this laptop has Win XP pro, and the only software on the drive right now is S5 V7.23, Mitsubishi 8.86, and CSCAPE 9.1. Which there was then maybe that would have solved the problem. Both had same results of displaying the TRANS MODE: message.Īs to JesperMP post, on this particular hard drive I do not have any Allen Bradley software. And I tried the one where you press ESC and UP arrow while booting.

I also tried both methods of going into the running program and selecting the download option from the menu. SO I did try changing those so that the RTS of one device went to the CTS of the other device.

If I followed the pinout I supplied here, which I found on the internet, it has the CTS from screen to CTS of laptop and the RTS from screen to RTS of laptop. The only thing that appeared that could be wrong was the CTS/RTS signals. I did go to the link supplied by JERA I followed all advice there.
